The Most Expensive 8 Letter Word On Planet Earth

There’s one word that I DESPISE above all others.

When you hear it you know that somebody is coming to rob you blind.

They’re sneaking in like masked robbers in the dark of night to steal your hard-earned savings, the things you worked for, the fruit of your labor, the sweat of your brow.

They are coming to steal your nickels, your dimes, and your piggy bank too.

They are coming to murder and rape everything you believe in and more.

That despicable word is “entitled”.

*E*N*T*I*T*L*E*D

It’s a word that is ONLY used by parasites, leeches, and vultures.

When somebody dies, these vultures show up in flocks…

Trust me I’m dealing with it right now in my own personal  life…

They say, “I am entitled to a portion of the estate of the deceased.”

They say, “I am entitled to the pension and life insurance of the dead man.”

They say, “I am entitled to it because I’ve grown ‘accustomed’ to it.”

When somebody becomes a success…

They say, “I am entitled to a job because you’re my brother.”

When somebody gets a promotion…

They say, “I’m entitled to a raise because she got a raise.”

When somebody loses their job…

They say, “I’m entitled to Welfare or Social Assistance.”

When somebody ends a relationship…

They say, “I’m entitled to support and benefits.”

It doesn’t matter if they even use the word “entitled” or another….

It glosses over their eyes and words like deep fried grease…

Somehow they are “entitled” to the paycheck without the work…

Somehow, they are “entitled” to the pleasure without the pain…

Somehow they are “entitled” to benefits without the bill….

That’s not to say that there aren’t any legitimate claims…

There most certainly are MANY legitimate claims…

But we are “entitled” to nothing we did not work for.

So we should be GRATEFUL for what we get…

You see, the problem with the world today isn’t the economy.

The problem is the parasites who are feeding off of that economy.

They might be bums, bankers, or bank robbers…

There isn’t a job description for parasites….

They come in all shapes, colors, and forms…

The problem is taking without giving…

The problem is ENTITLEMENT.

If you have a story about being robbed blind by somebody who thought they were “entitled” to the fruit of your hard work then I would love to hear it.

If we have a common enemy, in that, we are good friends…

Please, if you think this message is important enough to share with your friends, “Retweet” and “Share” this post on Twitter and Facebook.

I love your writing courtney… and i agree completely. If someone wants something- they need to earn it. I had some team members once who thought they were entitled… I soon learned to remove them- and focus on people who were willing to work. Thanks

  2. Satinder says:

Totally agree with you! Firm believer of you get what you work for!

  3. Andy Pitt says:

Great article Courtney and so true.

    Keep up the good work

    Andy

  4. GRAHAM says:

Oh speak to me!! I have never seen it better put. I hate to hear the phrase “I know my rights!” Who bestowed those rights? Rights are privileges to be earned by actions and attitude, not something we are born to possess. Entitlement is to be paid for by effort. You certainly connected with this message!

  5. Marina Moss Skiffington says:

I totally agree with everything you said. I have the same issues and the whole system is set up so they can feed of it. Vultures just waiting to take a share of whatever it is they feel they are entitled to. Grat article.

  6. Hey Courtney

I would just slightly correct you ::

“But we are “entitled” to nothing we did not work for or did not pay for”

Many politicians today, all of the conservative slant, will use the word “entitlement” to describe programs that we have paid for through our taxes and are “entitled” to.

    Peter

  7. andrew says:

Very well written commentary! You’ve hit the nail on the head with this word – and the sad condition of this economy. It has always amazed me how entitled people become – always wanting something for nothing. It’s really a disgrace! Like a cancer of our society! Well done!

    Andrew

  8. Ya Courtney.
    You nailed it buddy.
I’m in Toronto Canada or San Francisco lite I call it.
I could get on a rant here my friend but I’ll be civil.
    I hope.
This is one of our biggest diseases along with political correctness that is brought on by our socialist/union/marxist government run school systems throughout N.A. for the last 50 years.
    That’s where this teaching starts.
I’m a 55 year young guy and my children are
    14 and 11.
    Ya started late.
Also been banned forever from my kids school.
    Why?
Because I question all very aggressively and these
so called teachers..not all of course…but most
are simply indoctrinated into that system that they
want to indoctrinate our kids with.
You see there are no winners…everyone gets a prize.
    Isn’t that nice Courtney?
    So we are all equal.
Why try harder or train harder since we all get a prize.
    No losers.
    No individuals allowed.
So these folks leave school and figure hey we are entitled to all.
That’s what we where taught since kindergarten.
Now here in Ontario they want to get kids started in the
indoctrination process at an even younger age.
Why don’t we just bring the baby from the hospital
into our government run system at birth.
    As you say…
“The problem is the parasites who are feeding off of that economy.”
    They are EVERYWHERE MAN!
I heard on a very popular radio show from America..
with initials R.L. who I love..that right now there
are fewer workers in America than ever in history.
46.5% of you are working or productive.
    WOW!
    Pretty scary stat.
We are doing much better financially than America here in Canada
but we have a massive entitlement program that is generational.
    Called welfare.
I can walk around our town house complex with maybe
250 units and take you to at least 50 places where
    there is generational welfare.
Yes they have tans and new cars and big screen T.V.s
    and party often.
These entitlement folks really know how to play our system.
    Here’s one for you.
My neighbor two doors down is on life time disability
for 15 years now and he is 47.
    He’s simply lazy.
But knows how to play our system.
He said to me the other week ..”I’m going to get my teeth done.”
2k worth of work paid for by the producers.
Here’s why that pisses me off.
I was discarded by the job market at 50.
Spent 1 year trying to get just an interview just to
get a part time job to bring in maybe 1k monthly to help me
with building myself out online and off.
    Nothing.
My wife and I decided to park our car…had one since 17
so tough…but we did that to go backward for a bit to move forward
    as I am now.
In those 3 years I had to buy my own benefits which cost us many hundreds of dollars monthly.
Could not really afford it but had young kids.
My wife made just enough to live for us and I worked daily on my business.
We could not get help temporarily from our government.
Would not even speak with us since my wife worked with no benefits.
So my wife’s salary helped to pay for my lazy neighbors
teeth and we could not get any help as folks who are
being productive and want to be more productive which we are now.
Lastly I see so many folks as I know you do to who
think this whole online thing is welfare.
All I can do is be more productive gain more influence
so I can more power to speak up.
    And I will.

  9. Teresa G says:

I have had many things stolen from me over the years. Maybe it was because I was so nice and people thought they could take advantage of me. Stolen sales from other employees at my JOB, maybe they thought they were entitled to steal.
Stolen dreams because of failed business ventures and lost relationships. Maybe these people thought they were entitled to use and abuse others for their own personal gain.
But thanks to Magnetic Sponsoring I am understanding the art of attraction marketing. I am successful, despite all the struggles in my life, they are shaping me into the person I am today. Wiser, stronger, faster, healthier, closer to God.

  10. Courtney says:

    Keep the comments coming. ;-)

Peter hit the nail on the head there.

Without getting too deep into politics (Because we’ll all be here till the middle of next year!)

There most certainly are MANY legitimate claims on benefits, pensions, and social assistance programs that are being ignored of even seriously abused.

I hope my post doesn’t go too far overboard there. The hard working men and women in this country and beyond are quite often the ones who get the short end of the stick.

Plus, when you’re down and out, there’s nothing wrong with seeking the assistance you legitimately paid for in taxes, benefits, and so on.

I don’t think you can identify a parasite by profession, paycheck, or even social status.

Nor even by what they claim they are entitled to.

It’s more a state of mind than anything else.

It’s the something for nothing state of mind which I have not been able to understand…

That’s where I draw the line in the sand for myself.

    I’m loving the discussion.

  11. Dr. Dick says:

Courtney, thank you for SAYING what a lot of us have been thinking. Frankly, I’m tired of hearing people (especially here in the USA, the land of opportunity) WHINE about how the government, the “rich”, etc. OWE them. Nobody owes you anything. Work for what you want, and be grateful for what you have.

    Dr. Dick

  12. For Peter.
Those are not the folks Courtney is speaking of.
You are correct in what you say there.
    From a conservative Canuck.

  13. Your are COMPLETELY ENTITLED to get
off your lazy butt and go EARN IT!

It’s a crying shame that in THIS COUNTRY
of all others, we have a WHINING problem…

We don’t have an economy problem…

    We have a MIND problem…

    We don’t have a “job” problem…

    We have a SPINE problem…

    GROW BACK YOUR SPINE AMERICA
and get entitled to get off
your lazy Arse and go EARN
what you earned back in the 1700s
that inspired a world to get FREE!

    Grow some back bone…
    Grow more MIND…
    And get er done!

  14. Doc Seth says:

Wow. Where do I start? There’s too many examples from our daily lives of this to list. This “entitlement” attitude started creeping into us as individuals, which allowed it to spread big time to our government. Our government feeds off of this and increases its control by making us believe that we can’t do anything without their help.

How many people in this country think they’re “entitled” to a good job, a good home, free health care, a paycheck, etc.? Far too many.

If we’re every going to take our country back, it’s got to start by taking our “person” back.

And this is the best industry to make that happen.

    Keep the faith!

  15. sharon c4rbs says:

I totally agree with your comment. I also hate the word ‘entitled’ I have a house whivh I have been paying the mortgage on for several years. I moved out and bought my mom’s house when she died because I couldn’t bear to sell the home we had grown up in. I decided to rent out my other house as I thought it could be an investment. Unfortunately the tenant believes she is entitled to live in my house + only pay rent when she feels like it, she wants everything perfect because she believes she is entitled to best of everything even though she hasn’t worked. I’ve always worked never claimed benefits, I was made redundant for the first time last month + I have set up my own business + a social enterprise with like minded friends. It really upsets me when I see people who want everything for nothing. I have never been this way + never will, I just pray that all my hard work will pay off for me. Sorry about the rant, but your post really hit a nerve. Good luck to everyone that puts in the effort + hard work

  16. Great post Courtney.

The biggest issue with so many parasites in our society is that the people who really need the help cannot get it.

People should build their own life and success. Make sure that you do not depend on anybody else.

    Remco

  17. Craig says:

Great article Courtney. People who fill entitled often do get something they are not entitled to but, give up so much more. Because the “entitled to attitude” on one side , is the “settle for attitude” on the other. You will not find one successful person among the wealthy in the world who settled for the scraps of of what someone was handing down. I agree that there are times when a person can use a hand up, but to stay in that attitude is to give up your dreams.

    Craig

  18. Excellent post and comments.
Even in searching for business prospects I find that there are so many who are looking for the “Easy Button” or “spillover” or some other free ride to success. There is so much opportunity available
for anyone…….yes, ANYONE, who is willing to put in the effort.
Even if you own a gold mine, you have to work it.

  19. Bruce says:

Entitlement as defined here is actually less of a real problem than what is behind its current focusing . . .unheralded crime. We are all being told that our economic problems today are caused by people who are getting money they just don’t deserve. Well, maybe some people are for sure, but in large part that is simply not true. It’s easy to believe it is when we see that those who abuse the system are much more noticeable than the vast majority who don’t. The criminals who created this financial disaster are still in charge. The liason between the major financial institutions and the government, enabled by the billions of dollars they easily spend on their lobbyists, is the root cause of our pain and suffering . . .and nothing is being done about it. Instead, with their power to influence what we talk about, hear, read and eventually think, they turn our attention away from themselves and blame the poor, the elderly and even now the middle class. It’s always been easier to turn wrath upon the more defenseless. So how many will stand up and say “enough” with the feint, with the deception? Not enough, alas. And so it goes.

  20. coach kwang says:

I met and give a job to one who had nada, they took any and everything when I was not there. I put my foot down and them out.
No work was even done, but LOL, got a paper from the courts, I had to pay them for their time. about 75% above normal wages.
they told false statement about our work relationship, my address, my job, and everything in order to get the case in their flavor.
about $12,000 to sat around and get high for 8 weeks.

  21. James says:

    Great post Courtney,

But you are wrong I am entitled to a big screen TV,computer, new car for my wife and a new shinny pickup for me free medical for me and my kids, food stamps so I can traid part of them to get money to buy my beer, free rent and utilities. I hope I got them all listed I hope I haven’t found out about anything I can get for free.

Well now that I have gone through the total BS you are 150% right. Yes I have a bigscreen TV my wife worked 7 days a week to pay for. I have 5 computers. The oldest one my wihe paid for 6 years ago, one my cousin gave me because it wouldn’t work and another one a friend of our youngest son levt it when he moved the one I am on I got with tax refuns last year and my laptop I got this year with the tax refund. I draw Social Security I don’t know if that is because I am entitled or if it is bacause I applies and am 69 years young. My wifes new car she paid for. It was new in 1992 and she has had it for almost a year now. My new pickup it took me over 4 years to pay off the 3 year note is a shinny 2000 junker.

I start to work monday at a job that will pay the 7.50 a hout wage I cant live on but hey there are no jobs remember and my wife makes a little pver 11.00 a hour not really liveing wages either but with my Social Security check and her J.O.B. check we provide a house, the utilities and all the house hold things for us oh I almost for got out two sons a daughter in law and three grand kids live here too in this big two bedroom home with very, very, very little help fron the kids. but hey when that 4 year old granddaughter with her brother who is 6 years comes up to me and will say I love you Papa I eat it up lile kids and ice cream cones and I know she means every word.

The United States would not be in the trouble we are in if they would cut out ALL of the free this and that and everything elde. No one is entitled to anything they don’t work for and if they didn’t give the company 100% they cheated the company.

OH H*** I need to shut up before my blood pressure go up. I can’t get along with lazy peopls that live off all the free entitled things they are entitled to.

    Have a good day

    James

  22. Paul Bursey says:

Great article Courteny. Yes people whinge and whine about their lot in life in the UK, as well as the US. Everyone thinks they are entitled to a whole array of free things. Wake up the western world, you have to fight for what you want. It doesn’t come on a silver platter.

  23. Robert L says:

    A simple “Amen”! Nicely Put

  24. Ryan says:

No one ever promised you this day or your next breath of air. There is no guarantee that your health will be the same next week, you could get a fatal disease. You could die in a car crash the next time you go out. Your very life and existence is a fleeting thing, a vapor that will soon disappear. How can you go another second without thanking the Lord for the very air you breathe and the fact that you woke up this morning. It’s all because of His mercy that we are still alive.

  25. Osvaldo says:

It’s a proportional cause of the way the system (goverment, education, beliefs, etc) is built. They try program ourselves to think and act that way in order to get us demand services and things that we don’t really need, but we demand them because we like. That’s it. Thanks to this industry and for people like you that have opened our eye and uneducated us from this kind of limiting thinking.

Take care an keep u the good work!

  26. wonderful post courtney. I’ve always said you are given a hand (of cards) at birth and its how you play them that matters. I have had to work for everything i have and I can’t stand when somebody tells me they deserve something just because. like they don’t have to work for it like the rest of us. it drives me crazy.

thank you for all the great posts and words of wisdom.

  27. Kandace says:

    Well said :)

  28. Courtney says:

    Wow.

I’m catching up on comments now that my phone has died. (Man, I love it when I have to charge my cell. Quiet time! lol)

I’m grateful for the personal stories you’ve shared here. In that, I think we all have something in common.

It reminds me of the book Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.

There’s producers and there’s looters. I have a feeling that most everybody here is a producer.

This post was a very emotional one for me personally because my father passed away on the first and it was only a few days before the “vultures” circled in the air. Here I was grieving through the biggest loss of my life and all people could think about was how much they would get…

But it’s a thread that runs through all of our lives no matter where we come from or where we are headed.

Wherever there is a leader like you in the world. There will be people who will want to have a piece of you.

Some people are willing to work for it like you did.

Others will expect it handed to them on a silver platter.

I think it’s okay to get angry with the looters…

It’s okay to defend what you have worked so hard for…

    Hater’s going to hate…

    But leaders will always lead…

  29. I know exactly what you are talking about courtney. My grandfather passed away a few months ago. I took leave to go to what was supposed to be a life celebration and it seemed like everyone else there was worried about what they were going to get of his. It actually took my mother asking me a week later if I wanted anything before I even thought about it.

People are like that though and try. As hard as we want there isn’t anything we can do to change them… so its not even worth trying.

  30. Rick says:

Courtney, I admire the blunt statement of the core problem of our country’s slide into ineptness. This entitlement society has brought us down. It’s up those of us who work hard and have faith to lead by example and say enough is enough!

  31. Michael Cole says:

    Hi Courtney,
The only thing anyone is entitled to is their opinion, all the rest you have to earn.

Just because a person owns a car doesn’t mean they’re entitled to drive it on Public roads, the right has to be earned, and every few years you have to prove you can still drive safely.

I hope to wake up tomorrow morning, but no guarantees, definately not an entitlement.

    Mike

  32. rafael s wasan says:

    greetings,

may your article continue to give a blow and crack on our present defective collective psychology of entitlement and dependency. good day

  33. I think the reason some people feel they are entitled to more is because they are/believe/feel that they are victims. And the reason so many people are stuck in the victim mentality is because society is so hung up over having more rights and not looking at what their responsibilities are. Those that take responsibility for their own lives don’t feel “entitled” to anything, but grateful for what they have.

It’s tough trying to be positive in a negative world, but that’s why we hang out on websites like this!
